The Department of Student Life gives students opportunities to give back to communities from the volunteering with local charities to trips to nearby neighborhoods, there are plenty of chances to be involved in life-changing explorations.
How To Get Involved
It’s Easy
If you are interested in attending a Mustangs Care event, you can stop by the Center For Student Success in the Juan Chacon Building to sign up. Trips are usually limited in space and availability. Opportunities include:
- Welcome Week Day of Service: Participate in projects throughout historic downtown.
- Rancho Feliz: Weekend trips to Mexico (3 hours away) to build homes and visit an orphanage.
- Hoops 4 Hope: Interactive games with people with disabilities
- Silver City Gospel Mission: Saturday meals for the homeless.
- Silver Care Center: Monthly arts and crafts sessions with the elderly.
- One Stop (food pantry): Helping distribute to the hungry on campus.
- Grant County Detention Center: Deliver Christmas gifts to kids whose parents are incarcerated.
- More Love Letters: Monthly letter writing to people experiencing challenging situations.
Frequently Asked Questions
A: Some are and some aren’t. For bigger events, we require a deposit and a portion of the cost of the trip to be covered by the student.
A: Students participating in Mustangs Care can earn the following recognitions:
- 1st event: Mustang Care shirt.
- 4th event: Mustangs Care Volunteer Champion certificate.
- 10th event: exclusive lapel pin.
- 20th event: you will get recognized with a sash to wear on your graduation robe.

A: Students that participate in a Rancho Feliz trip are limited to one trip per year with Mustangs Care. You can participate in as many local events as possible!
A: The food pantry (One Stop) is located in the Brancheau PE Complex. It is open to all students, faculty, and staff that are facing food insecurity. There are no pre-requisites to access the food items. Visit the food pantry page to learn about operating hours. Email OneStop@wnmu.edu for more information.
Student Volunteer of the Year Award
The Student Volunteer of the Year Award has been established to recognize outstanding volunteerism by a current student within the community and/or on campus.
